Linux On a USB Flash Drive. An Operating System in Your Pocket. Part 2.

In cosas, gadgets, technology on February 9, 2011 at 8:05 pm

Part 2: It shows how to install Puppy Linux on an USB flash drive. Then runs on a laptop without the need to install software on the hard drive. Great for a faster web browsing experience protected against spam, spyware, malware and pop-ups. Privacy is greatly improved. Enjoy!

Note: Do not throw the Linux CD (DVD) away. You may need it later. It can be use to boot some computers.

Software used: Puppy Linux 5.1.1 Lucid Puppy.

Notes:
You can still use the CD to boot other computers. I am using an older PC (with a tube monitor and everything) running Puppy Linux 5.1.1 from the drive. Everytime the computer starts, it runs Linux and takes advantage of the speed. It has the DVD 24/7. If there is the need to run Windows for some reason, I just take the CD/DVD out for a moment.

Don’t forget to set the boot options on the bios (Del, F11 or F12 at the start) you want to set the computer to boot from the USB port or CD 1st and then the hard drive.
